Vienna Schönbrunn Zoo

这 Vienna Zoo is located in the Schönbrunn Palace Park, about 20 minutes by metro from the city center. Visiting Schönbrunn usually takes a full day, as you can see both the palace and the zoo in one trip.

历史

Oldest zoo in the world – the first menagerie opened here in 1570.
Became a proper zoo in 1752 on the initiative of Emperor Franz I.
Opened to the public in 1779, initially free of charge.

Animals and Attractions

The zoo covers 17 hectares and houses over 8,500 animals.
It has won the title of best zoo in Europe five times.
Rare species include giant pandas, koalas, polar bears, Siberian tigers, and orangutans.
Schönbrunn Zoo is the first zoo in the world where giant panda cubs were born naturally in captivity. African elephant calves were also recently born here.

By metro: Take the green line U4 to Schönbrunn station (6th stop from Karlsplatz). From the metro, it’s about a 10-minute walk to the zoo entrance.

The zoo is well-planned and compact, making it easy to explore even with children, and is an excellent destination for animal lovers and families.
