这 Caravanserai in Kusadasi (Öküz Mehmet Paşa Kervansarayı) is a historic fortress-like inn built between 1615–1618 by Ottoman Sultan Mehmet Pasha. Its main purpose was to protect merchants and their goods from robbers, as Kusadasi was an important Aegean port at that time.

Key facts about the Caravanserai:

• Constructed as a rectangle (43 × 51 meters) with high walls, loopholes, and sharp battlements.
• Features a central courtyard (21 × 28 meters) with a fountain and greenery.
• Two entrances – one from the sea and one from Barbarossa Boulevard pedestrian zone.

The structure has two floors: the upper floor accommodated merchants, while the ground floor was used for livestock and goods. The courtyard provided shade and a cool resting area during the hot season. Over the centuries, the Caravanserai fell into disrepair but was fully restored between 1954–1966, eventually operating as a hotel and restaurant. It gained fame when US President Jimmy Carter stayed here during a visit to Ephesus.
