Castel Sant’Angelo (Castle of Saint Angel) is a historic fortress and museum located on the banks of the Tiber River in Rome. Its central location makes it a convenient stop for tourists traveling between the city center and the Vatican.

It was first built in 135 AD. the Roman emperor Andrian as his own mausoleum (tomb). Then, already in the Middle Ages, Roman Popes began to use this building as their residence and fortress.
