Bourgas – Sarafovo bicycle path

The bicycle and pedestrian path from Burgas to Sarafovo connects Burgas Seaside Park (Morska Gradina) with the residential area of Sarafovo, near the airport. It runs between the seashore on one side and Lake Atanasovsko on the other, offering scenic views of both the lake and the Black Sea coast.

• Construction timeline: Work began in 2017. The first section, from Morska Gradina to the dam and bridge at Lake Atanasovsko, opened in 2018, and the route was later extended along the sea to Sarafovo.
• Attractions along the path: You pass the wild northern beach of Burgas, the Burgaski Solnitsi mud baths (famous for healing mud), and, in summer, can see pink flamingos in their natural habitat.

After a landslide in spring 2022, a section of about 1.3 km near Sarafovo had to be closed, and the slope was reinforced with hundreds of concrete piles. In 2026 the work was nearly finished, with protected corridors for cyclists during construction.

• Route: Along the sea to the Sarafovo yacht club, with access to the center of Sarafovo and the airport.
• Total length: About 10 km, connecting the center of Burgas to the airport.

The path has lighting, seating areas, drinking water fountains, and tire inflators, all free for public use. There is also a café near the mud baths for refreshments.

• Electric bus: In 2019, visitors could also ride part of the route in a small open electric bus (golf cart) for a small fee, from Morska Gradina to the mud baths and back.
