Zagreb climate at a glance

Zagreb lies between the slopes of Medvednica and the Sava river, with warm summers and cool winters. July and August reach 28 °C on average, while December and January hover around 5–6 °C by day with frosty nights. Rain is spread through the year, with 8–10 wet days in most months, but May stands out with showers and thunderstorms on about 15 days.

When the city is at its best

Late spring, September and October bring 17–22 °C — ideal for the Upper Town, the funicular ride and the cafés on Tkalčićeva Street. In March, the Festival of Lights turns façades and parks into colourful installations, and from late November Advent in Zagreb makes the city one of Europe’s most popular Christmas destinations.

If the weather turns

On rainy days, the Museum of Broken Relationships, the Croatian Museum of Naïve Art and Zagreb Cathedral are all within a short walk of each other, and the covered hall below the Dolac market stays busy whatever the weather.
