Naama Bay is the main tourist hub of Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, known for its vibrant pedestrian promenade, nightlife, and sandy beaches. Located along the coastline, the bay features several hotels catering to a wide range of budgets, as well as numerous restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. The area serves as the cultural and recreational center of the resort, attracting both local and international visitors.
Location and Access
Naama Bay can be accessed via hotel shuttle services, which are commonly provided by many local hotels and tour operators. Public transport is also available in the form of blue minibuses that travel along the main resort roads; the official fare is only a few Egyptian pounds, but drivers often ask tourists for more, so agree on the price before boarding. Taxis are available but can be expensive and require bargaining.
Pedestrian Promenade and Resort Center
The pedestrian promenade of Naama Bay, often referred to as Naama Bay Avenue, forms the core of the resort. It consists of several wide streets, including Malek Al Bahrein, Hussein Salem, and Al Sultan Qabos-Mashaba. The promenade stretches from the area near Tropitel and Le Mirage New Tiran hotels toward the southern edge of the embankment.
At night, the promenade is lively and illuminated by neon lights, with numerous shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, and clubs. Well-known venues include Pacha (now in a smaller format), Little Buddha, and the Hard Rock Cafe, although in recent years many former nightclubs have turned into late-night bars with music. Visitors should be aware that aggressive restaurant and nightclub promoters are common, so be cautious when accepting offers or services.
Attractions and Activities
Naama Bay offers a variety of shopping and dining options. Tourists can visit the oriental bazaar, Naama Bay Shopping Center, and international venues such as the Hard Rock Cafe, as well as many local restaurants serving Egyptian food and seafood.
The bay is particularly suitable for families due to its sandy beach with a gentle entry into the water. Coral removal in certain areas decades ago has created safer swimming zones, ideal for children. Some parts of the bay still preserve coral reefs, though snorkeling and diving here are limited compared to other areas of Sharm El-Sheikh.
Beaches
Naama Bay Beach is known for its calm waters, especially during winter, as it is a naturally enclosed bay. The public beach can become crowded during peak season, while hotel beaches charge non-guests a day-use fee, often including a credit for food and drinks. A small green promenade runs along the shoreline, providing additional walking areas with restaurants and quieter spaces compared to the main avenue.
Overall, Naama Bay combines accessibility, family-friendly beaches, and vibrant nightlife, making it the primary destination for visitors seeking both relaxation and entertainment in Sharm El-Sheikh.
