Milan climate through the seasons

Milan sits in the Po Valley, where summers are hot and humid and winters cold and often foggy. July and August reach 29–30 °C with muggy nights around 20 °C, while December and January bring 8 °C by day and frost at night. Surprisingly, winter is the driest season, and May is the wettest month, with rain on about 16 days.

Best seasons in Milan

April, late September and October are the most comfortable, with 18–24 °C and lively streets around the Duomo and the Navigli canals. Fashion weeks in February and September fill the city, while August is quiet as many Milanese leave for the coast or the lakes.

Art and shopping under cover

Rain and summer heat have the same remedy: the glass-roofed Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the vast interior of the Duomo and Leonardo’s Last Supper in Santa Maria delle Grazie, which must be booked well in advance. For shopping, the Scalo Milano outlet is a short ride from the centre.
