Belgrade weather where the Sava meets the Danube

Belgrade has a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. July and August reach about 29 °C, with nights near 19 °C, and heatwaves above 35 °C are not unusual. Winter days stay around 5–7 °C and nights dip below freezing, while May and June are the wettest months, with showers and thunderstorms on 12–13 days.

The best months and summer by the river

Late April to early June and September to October, with 18–24 °C, are perfect for walking from Kalemegdan, the Belgrade Fortress above the two rivers, along Knez Mihailova Street to the bohemian quarter of Skadarlija. In midsummer, locals escape the heat at Ada Ciganlija, a lake beach on the Sava, and spend warm nights in the floating clubs on the rivers.

The košava wind and indoor sights

In autumn and winter the košava, a cold, gusty wind from the south-east, can make the city feel much colder than the thermometer suggests. On such days, the vast Church of Saint Sava, the Nikola Tesla Museum and the National Museum are good places to warm up.
