Bratislava weather at a glance
Bratislava lies on the Danube where the Little Carpathians meet the plains, and its climate is warm, fairly dry and often windy. Summers bring 26–28 °C in the afternoons and warm nights of 16–18 °C; winters are short and cold, with 4–5 °C by day in December and January. Most months have only 8–10 rainy days, and March is the driest of all.
When the old town shines
From late April to June and in September the compact old town is at its best, with 16–26 °C for walks from Michael’s Gate to the castle hill. The view from the terraces of Bratislava Castle over the Danube — on clear days as far as Austria and Hungary — is most rewarding in the crisp air of autumn.
Short city, short showers
Summer rain usually comes as a brief thunderstorm, so an umbrella and a café stop are often enough. On longer wet days, the exhibitions inside Bratislava Castle and Michael’s Gate, the Old Town Hall with the City Museum and the Blue Church of St. Elizabeth make good indoor stops.
