The Krušovice Brewery is located about 54 km northwest of Prague, in the village of the same name. By car or excursion bus, the trip takes roughly 40 minutes.
Founded in 1517 by a local beer enthusiast, the brewery soon gained prestige when it was acquired by Emperor Rudolf II, earning the title of “royal.” Today, Krušovice beer is served at official receptions with the President of the Czech Republic. Currently, the brewery is owned by Heineken and exports beer to over 30 countries, but production remains exclusively in the Czech Republic, maintaining traditional taste and quality.
The brewery produces six varieties, with the most famous being Krušovice Light, Krušovice Dark, and Musketeer.
Visitors can join guided tours, which run all year; it is best to book in advance. A tour with tasting costs about 240 CZK if you come on your own, while organized excursions from Prague cost about 25 euros, or 40 euros if combined with a visit to Karlovy Vary. The tour lasts about 90 minutes and includes:
- Visiting the production areas and seeing vats and conveyor systems
- A tasting session (two 0.33-liter glasses of beer, one dark and one light)
- Access to the souvenir shop, offering beer, branded glasses, and other memorabilia
Masha Pasha recommends trying the Musketeer beer and the dark variety for a full experience.
