Lviv climate and seasons
Lviv has a cool, damp continental climate, wetter than most of Ukraine because of its position near the Carpathians. Winters are cold, with highs of 1–4 °C from December to February and frequent snow, while summers bring 23–25 °C and regular afternoon showers; May has the most rainy days, around 15.
Seasons for strolling
Late August, September and early October are often the most pleasant, with 14–25 °C and drier weather for the cobbled lanes around Rynok Square and the climb up the City Hall tower. Christmas in Lviv is special too: from mid-December to mid-January the old town hosts a festive market, carols and nativity scenes.
Coffee, chocolate and museums
Lviv is famous for its coffee houses and chocolate workshops, which make a rainy afternoon easy. Indoors, the Pharmacy Museum in one of the city’s oldest pharmacies, the art gallery in the Potocki Palace, St. George’s Cathedral and a performance at the Lviv Opera are good escapes from the weather.
