Limassol Zoo, Cyprus

Limassol Zoo is a small but well-maintained zoological park located in the Municipal Park in the heart of Limassol, Cyprus. After a major renovation in 2012, it was transformed into a modern family-friendly attraction with spacious enclosures, shady alleys, gazebos, benches, a café, and a playground.

The zoo is situated inside Municipal Park on 28 October Avenue, the city’s seafront road. The nearest bus stop is “Municipal Gallery”, served by bus No. 30, which runs along the entire Limassol promenade. Visitors should note that the entrance is from the park side, not directly from the seafront.

Open daily from 09:00 until late afternoon/evening, depending on the season (16:00 in winter, 19:00 in summer).
Closed on December 25, January 1, August 15, and Easter Sunday.
Best time to visit: morning hours (10:00–13:00) when animals are being fed.

Zoo Territory

Although relatively small, the zoo is thoughtfully designed:

Shady walking paths, gazebos, and bridges over ponds create a pleasant atmosphere.
Comfortable enclosures provide clear visibility for visitors, including children.
On-site facilities include:
- Flamingo Café, overlooking the flamingo enclosure.
- A children’s playground and picnic area.
- Well-kept seating areas and rest spots.

Animals at Limassol Zoo

The zoo houses a modest but diverse collection of animals. To maximize space, some species are kept in shared enclosures when safe.

Martens and otters (with panoramic pool)
Pygmy hippopotamus
Wallaby kangaroos with emus
Antelopes, llamas, Cypriot mouflons
Gophers, meerkats, tamarin monkeys

Birds:

Pink flamingos, pelicans, swans
Various owls, including barn owls

Reptiles:

Paraguayan caiman
Pythons, boas, iguanas, monitor lizards

Visitor Experience

While you can tour the entire zoo in about 30 minutes, families with children often spend 1–2 hours here. The relaxed, leafy setting makes it a pleasant stop for both residents and tourists seeking a calm outing in central Limassol.
