波兰维利奇卡盐矿

Wieliczka Salt Mines are a historic salt mining complex located in Wieliczka, near Kraków, Poland. The mines are one of the oldest in the world and have been a popular tourist attraction since the 15th century.

Wieliczka is accessible from Kraków by train, bus (No. 304 from Kraków railway station), or car via the E-10 highway.

历史

Salt extraction at Wieliczka began in the 13th century. By the 15th century, the mines had become a notable attraction, visited even by royalty. Mining operations ceased in the 20th century, and the site was preserved as a cultural and historical landmark. In 1978, the mines were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Structure

The mines span 7 underground levels, ranging from 57 to 200 meters deep. The total length of corridors and galleries reaches 200 km. Visitors descend via the Danilovich Shaft (cut in the 17th century) to the first level at 62 meters depth.

Visiting the Mines

• Tours are only available with a guide. English-speaking tours run every 30 minutes.
• The guided excursion lasts about 2–3 hours. The temperature underground is around 15 °C, so warm clothing is recommended.
