The historic centre of Toruń is located in northern Poland on the banks of the Vistula River, about 180 km northwest of Warsaw and 50 km southeast of Bydgoszcz. The city was founded in the 13th century by the Teutonic Order and quickly became an important торговый center within the Hanseatic League. Thanks to its preserved medieval layout and architecture, the Old Town of Toruń was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997 as one of the finest examples of a Gothic trading city in Europe.

Visitors can also explore the Copernicus House Museum, medieval gates, and riverfront viewpoints along the Vistula. The city is also famous for its traditional gingerbread (pierniki), which has been produced in Toruń since the Middle Ages and can be tasted in local shops and museums.

The historic centre is easily accessible from major Polish cities. From Warsaw, the journey takes about 2.5 hours by train, while from Gdańsk it takes around 2 hours. Toruń’s main railway station is located about 2 km from the Old Town, which can be reached in 10–15 minutes by bus, taxi, or a 25-minute walk. The Old Town itself is largely pedestrian and compact, making it easy to explore on foot.

Entry to the historic centre is free, while individual museums and attractions charge admission fees, typically ranging from €3 to €10. A full visit to Toruń’s Old Town usually takes half a day to a full day, depending on how many museums and landmarks are included.
