The Jungfraubahn, also known as the Jungfrau Railway, is a high-altitude mountain railway in the Swiss Alps. It connects the Bernese Oberland region with Jungfraujoch, often called the Top of Europe. Unlike cable cars, this system is a rack railway that runs partly in the open air and partly inside tunnels carved through the mountains. It is one of the most impressive railway engineering projects in the world.

The Jungfrau Railway is located in the Bernese Alps in Switzerland and forms the final section of a longer mountain rail journey.

Most of the route runs inside the Eiger and Mönch mountains, protecting the trains from weather and steep terrain.

At the time, building a railway tunnel at such altitude was considered extremely ambitious. The railway was created to give access to high alpine areas for tourism and scientific research.
