Benidorm is one of the most popular holiday towns in Spain. It lies on the Costa Blanca, in the province of Alicante, in eastern Spain. The town has two long sandy beaches: Levante Beach, about 2 kilometres long, and Poniente Beach, about 3 kilometres long. Between them, on a small rocky hill, is the old town. Behind the beaches rise many tall buildings and skyscrapers, which give Benidorm its famous skyline. The beaches have fine golden sand, calm water and a Blue Flag for quality.
What to See
Levante Beach is the lively one, with many bars, restaurants and shops along the promenade. Poniente Beach is quieter and popular with families, and its modern promenade has colourful curved designs. On the hill between them is the Balcón del Mediterráneo, a viewpoint with white railings and wide views over both beaches and the sea. In the bay you can see Benidorm Island, which can be reached by boat. The old town has narrow streets with tapas bars. Benidorm also has theme parks and water parks nearby.
How to Get There and Practical Information
Benidorm is about 45 kilometres north of Alicante and its airport. You can get there by bus, by car or by the TRAM tram line from Alicante. The beaches are free, and sunbeds and umbrellas can be rented. The weather is sunny for most of the year, so Benidorm is popular in winter too. In summer the beaches are very busy, so come early to find a good spot. Lifeguards and beach services are available in the main season.
