Luxor Bridge crosses the Nile a few kilometers south (upstream) of central Luxor, linking the East Bank with ad-Dabiyya on the West Bank in Luxor Governorate, Egypt. Opened in 1998, it replaced the local ferries as the main road link between the two banks and made it much easier to reach the temples and tombs of the West Bank by car.
The bridge offers a beautiful view of the Nile, which is quite wide at this point, with palm groves and fields along both banks and the Theban Hills on the western horizon. Several cruise ships moor on the riverbanks near the bridge; Luxor is the starting or finishing point of most Nile cruises to Aswan, which usually last three to four nights.
The bridge is mainly used by road traffic, so most visitors cross it by taxi, minibus or tour bus on the way to the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut or the Colossi of Memnon. In the city center, public ferries and motorboats still cross the river between the Corniche and the West Bank – an inexpensive way to enjoy the Nile up close.
