What You Can See

Visitors to the Wieskirche can admire exceptional Rococo artistry:

  • The Oval Nave – bright, airy interior with elaborate stucco decoration
  • Ceiling Frescoes – painted by Johann Baptist Zimmermann, depicting heavenly scenes
  • High Altar – richly decorated with gilded elements and sculptures
  • The Scourged Savior Statue – the devotional figure that inspired the church’s construction
  • Organ Gallery – beautifully integrated into the Rococo design

Wieskirche was built between 1745 and 1754 by the brothers Dominikus and Johann Baptist Zimmermann. Despite its relatively modest size, the church achieves extraordinary artistic impact through light colors, intricate stucco, and dramatic frescoes.
