The Karneval der Kulturen (Carnival of Cultures) is one of the most vibrant multicultural festivals in Berlin. Held every year since 1996 over the long Pentecost weekend, it celebrates the diversity of Berlin’s international communities. In 2026 it ran from 22 to 25 May with the parade on Sunday 24 May; the next edition is expected from 14 to 17 May 2027, with the parade on Pentecost Sunday, 16 May.

The street festival is centered in the district of Kreuzberg, around Blücherplatz, where four days of free events take place. This area transforms into an open-air cultural space filled with food stalls, music stages, and artisan markets representing cultures from around the world.

Parade and Events

The highlight of the event is the parade on Pentecost Sunday, with more than 5,000 participants. Dozens of groups representing different countries and cultures take part with traditional costumes, music, dance, and decorated floats. Samba dancers, African drumming groups, Asian performance troupes, and Latin American ensembles all contribute to a dynamic and colorful procession that attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators. Because of construction work on the traditional route through Kreuzberg, in 2026 the parade moved to Friedrichshain, running from Frankfurter Allee along Karl-Marx-Allee towards Alexanderplatz, and the Frankfurter Allee route is planned again for 2027.

Beyond the parade, visitors can enjoy live concerts, DJ sets, and cultural performances across multiple stages. The street festival offers a wide variety of international cuisine—from street food to traditional dishes—making it a great place to explore global flavors in one location.

For tourists, it is best to arrive early on parade day to find a good viewing spot. Public transport is recommended, as many streets are closed: the street festival is next to the U-Bahn stations Hallesches Tor and Mehringdamm, while the parade route along Frankfurter Allee and Karl-Marx-Allee is served by the U5 line.
