Rave the Planet is a large-scale electronic music parade held annually in Berlin. Founded by techno pioneer Dr. Motte, the event continues the legacy of the iconic Love Parade, promoting electronic music culture, unity, and freedom of expression. It combines elements of a street festival, demonstration, and open-air rave, attracting hundreds of thousands of participants from across Europe and beyond.
The parade takes place in summer, in recent years between July and August. In 2026 it was held on Saturday 15 August from 14:00 to 22:00 on Straße des 17. Juni, looping from the Brandenburg Gate around the Victory Column at the Großer Stern and back, with around 25 music trucks (“floats”) and more than 300 DJs and artists; the organisers registered 300,000 participants. The date of the 2027 parade had not yet been announced in October 2026. The event is free to attend and open to everyone.
Rave the Planet is centered around techno and electronic music, with dozens of floats featuring both well-known and underground DJs. Participants dance alongside the moving stages, creating a continuous party throughout the city. The atmosphere is inclusive and expressive, with many attendees wearing colorful, creative, or avant-garde outfits.
Beyond the parade itself, Berlin’s club scene plays a major role during the event. Numerous afterparties and club nights take place across the city, especially in famous venues such as Berghain and Sisyphos, extending the celebration into the night and following days.
From Love Parade to Rave the Planet
The original Love Parade was first held in 1989 in Berlin, organized by Dr. Motte. What began as a small demonstration for peace, love, and electronic music quickly grew into one of the largest music events in the world. At its peak in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Love Parade attracted over one million participants.
Rave the Planet was launched in 2022 by Dr. Motte as a spiritual successor to Love Parade. While it follows the same core concept—music trucks, dancing crowds, and a parade through Berlin—it also has a stronger focus on cultural recognition and preservation of electronic music. Following an application by Rave the Planet, Berlin’s techno culture was added to Germany’s national inventory of intangible cultural heritage in 2024.
