Sziget Festival takes place in Budapest, on Óbuda Island (Óbudai-sziget), a large island on the Danube River. The festival site is located close to the city center and can be easily reached by public transport, including the H5 suburban train (HÉV) to Filatorigát, buses, and taxis. During the event, special transport services operate to accommodate the large number of visitors.

The festival was founded in 1993 and has grown into one of the most important music and cultural events in Europe. Often referred to as the “Island of Freedom,” Sziget offers not only music but also art installations, theater, circus performances, and cultural activities. The lineup features a wide range of genres, including rock, pop, electronic, and world music, attracting around 400,000 visitors each year from around the globe.

Sziget takes place every August. In 2026 it ran for five days, from Tuesday 11 to Saturday 15 August, and the 2027 edition is expected on 10–14 August, with performances across multiple stages throughout the island.

Sziget Festival is a ticketed event, offering several ticket options. For 2026, day tickets started at about €75, 3-day passes at about €225 and the full five-day festival pass at about €355, plus a handling fee, with cheaper full passes for under-21s. Camping options are available at additional cost, with different zones offering varying levels of comfort and services.

The festival operates continuously throughout the day and night, with main stage performances typically starting in the afternoon and continuing until late evening, while other stages and activities run into the early morning hours. The site remains open 24 hours a day for pass holders.
