Beach Spiaggia dei Maronti, Ischia, Italy

Spiaggia dei Maronti is the largest and one of the most famous beaches on the island of Ischia, located in southern Italy in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The beach lies on the southern coast of the island near the village of Barano d’Ischia and not far from the picturesque fishing village of Sant’Angelo. Stretching along a broad bay surrounded by green hills and volcanic cliffs, Maronti Beach offers dramatic natural scenery and a relaxing seaside atmosphere that attracts visitors from across Italy and beyond.

The Beach and the Sea

Spiaggia dei Maronti extends for nearly 3 kilometers, making it the longest beach on the island of Ischia. The shoreline consists of dark volcanic sand mixed with small pebbles, a characteristic feature of many beaches formed by the island’s volcanic origins. The sea here is usually clear and calm, with a gradually deepening seabed that makes swimming comfortable. The wide bay protects the beach from strong waves, and the surrounding hills create a beautiful natural landscape that changes color throughout the day as the sun moves across the sky.

The beach is also famous for its natural thermal springs, where warm volcanic water rises through the sand and into the sea, creating small hot spots that visitors often explore along the shoreline. At the western end, near Sant’Angelo, steam rises from the hot sand of the Fumarole, and the open-air Cavascura thermal baths lie in a gorge just behind the beach.

EAV island buses run from Ischia Porto towards Maronti, with a short walk down to the sand, and in season water taxis cross from Sant’Angelo in about five minutes.

Water Temperature

The waters around Ischia warm up quickly during the summer season. On average the sea is about 22–26 °C in June, 25–29 °C in July, 24–30 °C in August and 24–28 °C in September, providing ideal conditions for swimming and water activities.
