Porto weather on the Douro

Porto is greener and wetter than Lisbon: Atlantic fronts bring rain on 12–14 days a month from October to March, and November and December are the wettest months. Winters are still mild, with 14–15 °C by day and 7–9 °C at night. Summers are pleasantly warm rather than hot, at about 25 °C in July and August, with only around three rainy days a month.

Summer on the riverside

June to September is the driest and brightest time for the Ribeira waterfront, a walk across the upper deck of the Dom Luís I Bridge or a port wine tasting in Vila Nova de Gaia. On the night of 23 to 24 June the São João festival fills the city with music, fireworks and plastic hammers. Morning sea fog can linger in summer, but it usually clears by midday.

Rainy-day Porto

Porto copes well with rain. Climb the Clérigos Tower when the clouds lift, browse the neo-Gothic Livraria Lello, and see the gilded interior of the Church of São Francisco and the Sé. The port wine cellars across the river are another classic way to spend a wet afternoon.
