Westminster Abbey is one of the most important religious buildings in the United Kingdom and a central monument of British history. For more than a thousand years, it has been the setting for royal coronations, weddings, and funerals. Every English and British monarch since William the Conqueror has been crowned here, with only a few exceptions, most recently King Charles III in 2023. The Abbey is also known for hosting royal weddings, including that of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Abbey attracts millions of visitors each year.
